Some big names, great sessions at The Hindu Lit for Life 2014.

There’s just a week left for The Hindu Lit for Life. Here’s a sneak peak of some of the sessions in store for audiences:

The festival kicks off with a dialogue between Man Booker Prize winner Aravind Adiga and literary agent David Godwin. This will be followed by selected readings of Tamil literary works from across the ages by Anita Ratnam, Revathy Kumar, P.C.Ramakrishna, R Rohini, Sushila Ravindranath and K.R. Arumugam. Those who appreciate poetry can look forward to sessions with Gulzar in conversation with writer and diplomat Pavan K. Varma and editor Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri. Later, best-selling writers Ashwin Sanghi, Ravi Subramanian, Anita Nair and Naresh Fernandes chat about how to make an impact as an author.

Ever wondered what it takes to write a literary novel? Man Booker Prize shortlisted author Jim Crace and physician-writer Abraham Verghese tackle this question. Next, journalists Naomi Wolf and Barkha Dutt analyse what it means to be a woman in the 21st century.

History buffs will enjoy William Dalrymple’s introduction to his latest book, Return Of A King , as well as Romila Thapar’s examination of the historical traditions of early northern India. Fans of nature and adventure wouldn’t want to miss Valmik Thapar’s exploration of 500 years of the tiger in India, and Colin Thubron’s account of his journeys to the mountains of Tibet.

Need some motivation to get fit? Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar will be talk about her latest book, Don’t Lose Out, Work Out! .

For those interested in the performing arts, Kamal Haasan, K. Hariharan and Baradwaj Rangan take a closer look at moral policing in Indian cinema; T.M. Krishna and Gopal Krishna Gandhi consider the evolution of Carnatic music and the former’s latest book, A Southern Music: A Karnatik Tradition ; and Vidya Shah outlines the rich oral traditions of India.
