Aparna Nair is all smiles. And why not? Her debut novel Kabhi Love Bites Kabhi Love Bytes is busy doing the rounds. “It’s sold out on Flipkart and some of my friends and relatives are annoyed as they can’t pick up a copy,” says Aparna.
A chicklet, Kabhi Love Bites Kabhi Love Bytes is about a young woman called Meera, who works in Bangalore.
“Meera is a sweet, bubbly girl. She was raised in different parts of the country, like me. I too had to move a lot because of my father’s central government job. Meera loves old world romances. She gets bitten by the love bug but soon realises that love can cause pain. There is a lot of me in Meera. The book is packed with romance, friendship, laughter, tears and twists and turns; it is very much a gen-Now book.”
An avid blogger, it was Aparna's posts on ‘souled up’ that led to her penning the book.
“My friends who read my blog, liked my narrative skills and kept advising me to pen a novel,” says Aparna, who has worked in Bangalore and is currently working as a clinical research professional at Icon Clinical Research at Technopark.
Motivated by her friends, Aparna wrote a small chapter and gave them copies of it. Her friends were hooked, they wanted more.
“They wanted to know where the story was going and what would happen to the character. A reason why my friends seem to enjoy my works, is because I write the way I talk,” says Aparna, who enjoys singing and dancing.
While at first she thought she would turn the chapter into a short story, as the pages increased, she found she had a novel in her hands.
The young author plans to start work on her second book soon.
“I am taking a sabbatical from writing for now as I want to get Meera out of my system completely. I have a couple of ideas floating in my head. As this will be my second novel, I need to show that I have evolved as a writer. It will be a light-hearted read like the first.”
