Launched in Chennai in 2005, The Hindu MetroPlus Theatre Fest has grown to become one of the best-known theatre festivals in the country. Over the years, the Fest has showcased theatre from various parts of India and the world. This year marks a watershed in the evolution of the festival, which travels this month to three other South Indian cities – Bangalore, Coimbatore, and your own, Hyderabad.

The festival in your city features four plays, the details of which are provided here.

We open with 'Ms. Meena', a bold and inventive adaptation of a Swiss play, that was commissioned for the MetroPlus Theatre Fest in Chennai, where it was performed in August 2010.

Next up, we have 'Taramandal', which won The MetroPlus Playwright Award 2010. The Rs. 1 lakh prize is given to the best unpublished and unperformed play in English.

This is followed by 'Swami and Friends', an appropriately endearing reconstruction of R.K. Narayan’s best-known and most-loved novel.

The curtains come down with 'One on One' by Rage Productions, a collection of sharp funny and extremely perceptive short plays by some of Mumbai’s best-known actors and directors. The play was showcased earlier this year at The MetroPlus Theatre Fest in Chennai, where it was received very warmly.

We hope The MetroPlus Theatre Fest becomes an annual event in Hyderabad and we seek your support in making the inaugural edition a success.

Tickets are priced at Rs. 500, 300 and 200. Season passes are available for Rs. 1500 & Rs. 900.

Tickets for all shows can be purchased online at www.thehindu.com/theatrefest and www.indianstage.in and The Hindu (Begumpet).

All the shows start at 7.30 p.m. at Ravindra Bharathi, Lakhdi-ka-pool, Public Garden Road, Saifabad, Hyderabad.
