The Hindu presents Navavarana Mahotsavam today

T he Hindu presents Navavarana Mahotsavam , where popular Carnatic artistes will pay tribute to composers Oothukadu Venkata Kavi and Muthuswamy Dikshitar by presenting their suite of brilliant compositions — navavaranams — specially created for Navaratri.

In this one-of-a-kind event, each artiste will render a set of two avarana kritis that will correspond to each day of Navaratri. Both suites include a Ganesha sthuthi, dhyana sthuthi and mangala sthuthi.

The vocalists at the programme are K. Dharini, Trichur Brothers, Vidya Kalyanaraman, Sriranjani Santhanagopalan, Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna, Nisha Rajagopalan, Anahita and Apoorva Ravindran, K. Gayatri, Sikkil Gurucharan, Amritha Murali, Sumithra Vasudev, Akkarai Subhalakshmi and Sornalatha. The accompanists are Amritha Murali, V. Sanjeev, Akkarai Sornalatha, Sudha R.S. Iyer, B. Ganapathyraman, R. Sankaranarayanan and Arjun Ganesh.

The event is open to all, and will be held today at The Music Academy at 5.30 p.m. Passes are available at the offices of The Hindu and The Music Academy from 10.30 a.m.
