Legionaries clicked legionaries and the outcome was evergreen. Work by photographers like Elliott Erwitt, Eve Arnold, Robert Capa and Burt Glinn was unveiled for Delhiites at the Art Motif gallery recently.

Actor Sharmila Tagore inaugurated the show, which is a celebration and dedication to 100 years of Hollywood.

Yesteryear stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin, to name a few, are captured in the frames.

Magnum Photos, a prestigious international photographic cooperative, joined hands with Tasveer and presented the exhibition as ‘Magnum ke Tasveer', which provides an introduction both to Magnum and Hollywood's cinema heritage.

The exhibition covers the history of cinema, capturing behind-the-scenes moments and photographing directors and actors on and off camera by photographers working on film sets then.

Shalini Gupta of Tasveer - Delhi, commented, “They (Magnum) approached us as they wanted their presence in India. Since the beginning of the year we were having talks with them and finalised this show.

Before coming to India this show has travelled to 20 to 30 other nations; this one is specific to our event. The photos are totally iconic. We hope to bring more shows of this calibre in the near future.''

Sharmile Tagore said, “For the last 50 years I have been appreciating art. These are wonderful pieces; I don't think they need my endorsement. It's a very good collection, far from any stardom. Relevant publication for any industry is essential to preserve moments of an era.”

According to Abhishek Poddar of Tasveer - Bangalore, “Photography's acceptance as mainstream art in India has been in its infancy, whereas in the West this debate has been long over. Through our combined efforts, we wish to rightfully establish it as an art form in our nation.”

The exhibition is on display at Art Motif gallery till August 23.
