New lease of life: Sri Vedapuriswarar Temple at Thugili getting ready for the occasion.

Amongst the Siva shrines in the Cauvery delta, is Sri Vedavalli Ambika Samedha Sri Vedapuriswarar Temple, the ancient one for Lord Siva, located at Thugili village.

The temple, which was in a dilapidated condition, has been taken up for renovation by the local villagers and philanthropists and consecration is scheduled to take place on July 15, between 10.15 a.m. and 12 noon. The village is located at Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk, Thanjavur District, on the northern banks of the River Cauvery.

This temple has been mentioned in the four Vedas and worshipped by the Vedic scholars with vastrarpanam and hence the name.

Legend has it that the village is thus called because Lord Siva blessed Draupadi with the ‘thugili’ vastram. The yagasala pujas are set to commence from July 12, accompanied by Veda parayanam and Thirumurai parayanam.

On the same day, Kaliyamman Temple , located in the village will be consecrated.

Contributions are solicited for the same.
