In the absence of Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri Khan personally thanked the viewers for their support to the movie My Name Is Khan.
Ms. Khan and her daughter Suhana visited Inox and Metro Cinema multiplexes on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to the media, she said, “The response has been extremely overwhelming. We are really happy. Today [Saturday] the film is opening everywhere. I think the best thing to say would be, ‘Jai Maharashtra.’ And we love Mumbai.”
'Excited'
She said Shah Rukh, who would arrive here on Sunday, “is really excited.” “I think he would be coming to all the cinemas on Sunday with Karan [Johar] to meet all his fans. Had he been here today [Saturday], he would have gone everywhere. Today [Saturday] he is very happy and he would be meeting everyone tomorrow [Sunday].”
Responding to questions on the audience’s reaction, Ms. Khan said, “Karan has worked for three years on it. It is because of this hard work that it is doing so well. A movie does not do well because of a controversy.”
She said, “No words are good enough for us [to thank the fans].”
40 theatres in Mumbai screening the film

Ms. Khan, who is also the co-producer of the film, was quick to put down speculation that the good response received by the film was due to the controversy generated on the eve of its release.
Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Himanshu Roy said that till Friday night, 40 theatres in Mumbai had begun screening the film. On Friday, only 13 theatres released the film, originally set to be released in 63 theatres.
