The camera captures an employee deftly arranging thread on a carpet weaving machine at a factory in the Bari Brahmana industrial area of Jammu. Jammu and Kashmir State Government recently announced its proposal to set up four carpet production centres (CPCs) in the State to give a boost to the industry. The proposal which, according to reports, has been sent to the Union government in April envisages setting up CPCs in the districts of Baramulla, Anantnag, Srinagar and Budgam. An estimated cost of Rs. 10 crore will be incurred on each centre. For this, the Central Government will contribute Rs. eight crore while the State will provide Rs. two crore. The Jammu and Kashmir government’s initiative for the revival of the industry will involve the supply and installation of 2,000 modern carpet looms.
