The Seven Islands International Film Festival, which is to be held from October 26 to 29 at the TAG Auditorium, Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram in Kilpauk, will celebrate women power in its inaugural year. The festival, with the theme Women Rising, Against All Odds , will feature 50 films from 18 countries this year.
Launched at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, the festival aims to bring together global radical filmmakers with new cinematic approaches that break through the clutter of traditional filmmaking.
About the theme for this year’s festival, Sakshi Ojha, festival director, said, “Women across the world are making a difference through their achievements. The last year has seen women rise against different socio-political and economic odds. We have decided to celebrate the strength and resilience of women and their inspirational stories. Seven Islands International Film Festival is not to celebrate just women’s inner strength, but also their creativity and confidence, as they become agents of positive social change for themselves, their families, other women and society at large.”
Seven Islands International Film Festival will showcase two Indian premieres as the opening and closing films. In association with the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), it will also organise a poster exhibition of women-centric films — Women In Cinema , commemorating the 100 years of Indian Cinema.
