It’s been a memorable third quarter for Bollywood with one Rs. 200 crore plus film ( Ek Tha Tiger ), two Rs. 100 crore plus films ( Bol Bachchan and Barfi! ) and three super hits ( Raaz 3 , Oh My God OMG and English Vinglish ). Keeping the momentum up and their fingers crossed, Bollywood opened this Friday with the mega Karan Johar film Student Of The Year promising one big film after another. The big five of Bollywood each have a film releasing in the next three months: Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar (Diwali releases – November 13), Aamir Khan’s Talaash (November 30), Akshay Kumar’s Khiladi 786 (December 7) and Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 (December 21). We give you a lowdown on what to expect from these high-decibel releases.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ)

It’s a YashRaj Film and one helmed by the late master of romance in Bollywood — Yash Chopra. This film comes eight years after he directed Veer Zaara . Shah Rukh is back with his ‘mentor’ and Katrina Kaif pairs up with him for the first time. Anushka Sharma is also part of the film that brings together the music of A. R. Rahman and veteran writer Gulzar’s lyrics. JTHJ is Yash Chopra’s swan song and is expected to have all his best efforts. Expect scenic locales, breathtakingly beautiful women and a zenith of emotional drama.

Son Of Sardaar (S.O.S)

It’s Ajay Devgn as the son of sardar and his clashing with SRK on Diwali is a high tension situation as Ajay is also touted in industry circles as SRK’s biggest rival (Salman Khan notwithstanding). And this man has had humungous Diwali hits in the last few years ( Golmaal , All The Best , Golmaal Returns , Golmaal 3 ). This is the Hindi remake of the super hit Telugu film Maryada Ramanna . Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha have pivotal roles and even Salman Khan is doing a special ‘item’ number in it!

Talaash

Aamir Khan’s Talaash is a suspense thriller starring Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. The film also reunites Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani who last worked together in Dil Chahta Hai . Director Reema Kagti (whose first film Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd didn’t work and second film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara that she scripted was a super hit) and Zoya Akhtar have worked together on the writing of Talaash . Most part of the film has been shot at Kamathipura (Mumbai’s largest red-light district) with Aamir Khan who plays a uniformed cop for the first time. The crew has reportedly shot in the smallest of the motels which rent out rooms by the hour and even converted the rooms of these motels into dressing rooms and make-up rooms for the cast and crew!

Khiladi 786

Akshay Kumar is returning to the Khiladi series after 12 years of doing his last in the franchise ( Khiladi 420 ). Asin, Paresh Rawal and Himesh Reshammiya join him in the film that promises to be in the league of Rowdy Rathore and others of the ilk. This Ashish Mohan’s first independent venture as director. Reportedly, Akshay is expected to copyright Khiladi too.

Dabangg 2

Salman Khan is closing the year in, what is now known as, his signature tapori style. Dabangg 2 comes two years after the first film which was a blockbuster. Salman’s role as Chulbul Pandey set the tone for several other similar characters. Sonakshi Sinha retains her role in this film which will have Prakash Raj playing the villain. Bring on the wolf whistles!
