Unlike many others in her profession, actor Payal Ghosh, who is making her debut in Tamil with Therodum Veediyile , has no qualms admitting that she may enter politics at some point of time.
“You never know where destiny will take you,” says the youngster, who holds a degree in political science and a diploma in fashion technology.
But for now, the actor is content with the way her acting career is shaping up.
After making her presence felt in Telugu and Kannada films such as Prayanam, Mr Rascal, Varshadhare and Oosaravalli, Payal is now aiming for a place in Kollywood and Bollywood.
“Therodum Veediyile, a film being directed by Saro Sriram, is my first film in Tamil while I am playing the female lead opposite Vivek Agnihotri in the Hindi film Freedom."
Payal has also starred in the BBC telefilm Sharpe’s Peril that was based on English soldier Richard Sharpe and a Canadian film in which she played a school girl in love with her neighbour’s servant.
“I look at roles that provide scope for performance. If I had to choose between a big project in which my role is not substantial and playing a brilliant character in a small film, I would probably opt for the latter. I want my skill to be appreciated,” she says.
Payal plays a traditional girl, who lives in Erode, in Therodum Veediyilae. “In the film I am an altruist, who is concerned about society. The hero, played by Naveen, is a rowdy-sheeter. We fall in love and I help him mend his ways.”
Payal, who lives in Mumbai, is clear about what she wants to do.
“I plan to do more Tamil and Telugu films. At the moment, apart from my Hindi and Tamil films, I am also working on a Telugu film being directed by P. B. Patnaik,” she says with happy smile.
