What it is about…
Vijay Antony Film Corporation presents Naan, produced by Fathima Vijay Antony and directed by Jeeva Shankar who is also in charge of the story, screenplay and camerawork. Naan is the 25th film for music director Vijay Antony, who is also making his acting debut with it. The others in the cast are Roopa Manjari, Anuya, Vibha, Siddarth, Krishnamoorthy and Vijay Victor. Suriya is the editor, Videsh, the art director; Nalan Sekar and Jeeva Shankar, the dialogue writers; and Rajasekar, the stunt choreographer. The audio was released by the S. A. Chandrasekaran, K. Bhagyaraj, Thanu, Lingusamy, S. J. Suryah, Sasi, P. V. Prasad, ‘Jayam’ Raja and editor Mohan, Kushboo and Radhika Sarath Kumar and received by Gangai Amaran, (Shankar) Ganesh, Vijay Ebenezer, Bharadwaj, D. Imman and Sundar C. Babu.
Music highlights
There are six numbers in the album, each bearing the stamp of the music director. The first song ‘Makkayala,’ written by Priyan and sung by Mark, Sakthrisree and Maheshan with the rap portions by Krishnan, is sure to top the charts. Next comes ‘Ulaginil Miga Uyaram’ in the voice of Vijay. Penned by Annamalai, it’s another captivating number. ‘Thapellam Thape Illai,’ written by Asmin and sung by Aadhi and Santhose Hariharan, is a tune that will keep ringing in the listeners’ ears. This song has a history — the tune was posted on the Net and more than 15,000 people wrote the lyrics and Asmin walked away with the prize. ‘Dinam Dinam,’ again written by Annamalai, is a beautiful number in Deepak’s voice. Two tracks come last — one is the theme ‘No One Is Perfect,’ and the other, a repeat version of ‘Thappelam Thappe Illai’ sung by the music director himself.

Producer Fathima Vijay Antony: After marrying Vijay, I was amazed to see the certificates and cups he had received at school and college for acting. That’s how I came to know about his interest in acting. As he is a popular music director, he knows the pulse of the audience. I know he can pull off the role of the protagonist easily. And this has been proved beyond doubt when I saw the first copy of Naan .
Director Jeeva Shankar: I have worked as an associate of cinematographer-director late Jeeva. When I wanted to direct a film, I narrated the storyline to my friend Vijay Antony. He immediately asked me to go ahead with it. That’s not all; he also expressed his desire to play the lead. The story shows the protagonist as someone with shades of black and white. When it was time to begin the shoot, I thought he might be camera-shy. But he handled all the emotions with ease. He will be an asset to those who direct him in future.
Hero and music director Vijay Antony: I always wanted to act in films but waited for the right opportunity. When I heard the story from Shankar, who was my classmate in college, I decided to produce the film myself as I didn’t want to play with other’s money. The film is shown from an individual perspective. I hope people like my work both as an actor and as a music director.
