'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and ‘The Dirty Picture' had a dream run, bagging a host of technical awards at IIFA

There were no surprises when the technical awards were announced for the 13th Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) awards at Esplanada arts and cultural centre in Singapore last week. As with the previous awards events held earlier this year, the honours were divided between Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), The Dirty Picture (TDP) and Ra.One.

Zoya Akhtar was ecstatic as she walked on stage along with her co-writer Reema Kagti to accept the award for the best screenplay. Choreographer Bosco, who accepted his award for choreography, stated, “ZNMD was one big party. I have to thank Zoya, Farhan, Abhay and Hrithik for trusting me and allowing me to choreograph the song as Caeser and I wanted to. The party has continued this year with us winning five choreography awards so far this year.”

The IIFA Rocks event opened with a brief performance by Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra to the song Uff from their forthcoming film Teri Meri Kahaani. Singer Mika stepped up the tempo with by singing and grooving to chartbuster numbers from Rowdy Rathore and Ready. The event saw performances by Colonial Cousins duo Hariharan and Leslie Lewis along with Usha Uthup, composers Vishal and Shekhar and the girl band Blush.

The event was a heady mix of cinema and fashion with designers Varun Bahl, Masaba Gupta and Suneet Verma showcasing their collections designed for the event. Varun Bahl presented four lines inspired by the spirit of four cities — Tokyo, Madrid, Paris and Mumbai. Vivek Oberoi and Nargis Fakhri were the showstoppers for Varun Bahl.

Masaba's collection was youthful, inspired by the vibrant colours of IIFA and included saris and drape dresses teamed up with dhoti pants. Masaba's collection saw the younger stars — Shazahn Padamsee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Zoa Morani and Dia Mirza — walk the ramp.

Suneet Verma's line showcased flowy dresses and drapes in pastel shades. A line in mint green drape dresses was the highlight of his collection. Bipasha Basu, dressed in a perky pink floral drape dress, was his showstopper.

Ranbir Kapoor drew the maximum applause when he came on stage to give away a few technical awards. Ranbir reprised songs and dialogues of Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. He even danced to ‘ Bebo, Bebo' song and dedicated it to his cousin Kareena.

Ayushmann and Chitrangada Singh as the compeers were a study in contrast. Ayushmann was a livewire and brought the house down, especially when he matched steps with Ranbir. Chitrangada's sombre act was completely overshadowed by Ayushmann.
