New kid on the block

He is just 15, but has already completed two Tamil films. Saran first inked Mye in which he is the child-hero. While this film has just released, his second film, Mudhal Idam , in which he plays hero Viddarth's son, was released earlier. Still in Standard 10 at St. Mary's Boys School, Saran's stepping stone to stardom will be his role as the younger Gautham in director Mani Ratnam's Kadal . A keen carrom and badminton player, Saran has done commercials too. “But my heart is in movies and I want to evolve as an actor of substance,” says this handsome youngster who is bound to grow into a full-fledged hero soon.

Set to soar

Vani Bhojan took to the skies, first with Indigo and then with Kingfisher Airlines. When advertisement assignments started coming her way, she quit the airlines. And, as luck would have it, she was selected to play the heroine in director-actor Vinod's NFDC produced Tamil film, Adhikaram . “I come from a conservative community and there were apprehensions within the family when the film assignment came up. But the choice was between getting back to the airline profession which is not doing too well or enter films, as I have already done a fair share of modelling. In Adhikaram , I play a doctor; the film's theme is based on martial arts, but it has its share of commercial ingredients,” says Vani, who is also doing the lead role in Aha , a tele-movie being made by Suresh Krishna for Vijay TV.

A feel-good film

“I have always wondered why so many films highlighting failure in love are becoming hits. Are we a society that cannot nurture love?” asks actor Tej, who has produced and written Kaantham . “I was keen on making this movie a feel-good romantic musical after my last film Konjam Veyil, Konjam Mazhai which had a tragic ending.” Kaantham 's hero is one who tries to solve everyday problems with love. He firmly believes that in every society and family, hatred and misunderstanding can be overcome if love is showered in abundance. Consequently, he finds love and happiness in his own life with heroine Rashmi. Kaantham is directed by Saravanan.

One for the youth

When it is a youth story, can love be far behind? But director Prem Nizar has attempted to tackle love and emotions differently. “When youth from rural areas come to study and work in the cities, there is a cultural upheaval in their lives. Some get overwhelmed by the freedom they get to enjoy. This affects their psyche and relationships with others. Falling in love and the emotions involved in such relationships are sometimes difficult for the youngsters to handle. I have highlighted the consequences of such developments and tried to provide solutions to various problems concerning youth in Ishtam ,” says Prem Nizar. Vimal plays the central character, paired with Nisha Agarwal, while Santhanam provides the rib-ticklers. Prem has shot some of the songs in scenic locations in Switzerland to complement the songs composed by Thaman S. Ishtam is ready for release and the producers are waiting for the appropriate dates and theatres.
