Music director Harris Jayaraj

On a touring spree

Look who's going to tour the world! Harris Jayaraj has not presented a concert in the last 10 years, and looks like he's going at it with accumulated verve. ‘Harris on the Edge', his concert tour, begins with Chennai, moves to Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur from October through December. In the summer of 2012, he performs in the U.S., Canada and Europe. “People have often asked me to perform, but I've wanted to give them something different from a usual concert,” says the music director. And, this is how it's different — he's roped in Techfront, leaders in digital technology and director Vijay to direct the shows. “We intend to sing 24 songs non-stop in two-and-a-half hours. In Hyderabad, it will be in Telugu while in other cities it'll be a mixture of Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. My focus right now is on the tour, and I have not accepted any films for the year,” he says.

The list of singers is quite impressive — Haricharan, Karthik, Kay Kay, Aalap Raju, Naresh Iyer, Harish Ragavendra, Tippu, Krish, Benny Dayal, Harini, Andrea Jeremiah, Sayanora Philip, Suvi Suresh, Chinmayi, Swetha Mohan, Sunitha Sarathy and Srilekha Parthasarathy. What's more — Harris Jayaraj will sing a couple of numbers himself!

It's all in the game!

It's apparently been nearly two years since actor-director-producer M. Sasikumar's had a hair cut or shaved his beard. Obviously he's taking his role in “Poraali” very seriously. Produced by Sasikumar himself and directed by his friend P. Samuthirakani, the film's said to be about four individuals who fight for their space in this world. Says Sasikumar: “In a way, everyone is a poraali . It is a day-to-day fight for survival.” Telugu actor Allari Naresh is said to be doing a significant role in the film, as are two stage performers from Kerala. The cast includes ‘Ganja' Karuppu, Swathi, Nivetha, Vasundara and Jayaprakash. After “Nadodigal”, music director Sundar C. Babu joins the duo. Camera is handled by S.K. Kathir and choreography by Dinesh.

Hitting the jackpot

The latest to join the “Jackpot” bandwagon on Jaya TV is actor Simran. After marriage and motherhood, Simran was welcomed by small screen viewers with “Simran Thirai”. And, now she hosts the reality show “Jackpot”, following in the footsteps of Khushboo and Nadia. “I'm conversing in Tamil — which is a high for me. I also know I must work hard on that. Only after ‘Jackpot''s success can I think about the big screen. I'm looking for the right script that will challenge me as an actor,” says Simran.
