Foods of Margazhi: 'Mountbatten' Mani Catering

History and sheer variety make for a sumptuous feast at the Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha, catered to by Mountbatten Mani Caterers. As Mountbatten Srinivasan dishes out a feast, and the story behind the name, Dharma Raman tucks in.

these are all over exaggeration. There are many caterers in Chennai, who are more or less equal to Mountbatten Mani and who charge 40% less to what Mani charges for our choice menus. It was Sri Gundappa in Mysore princely state, who prepared the first Mysore Pak (without any name) and presented to the King Wadayar who was spell bound with the sweet which melted in his mouth. He asked for the recipe and name and Sri Gundappa, said, he has not kept any name. the King, immediately said, let it be named Mysore Pak and we still have Sri Gundappa's Great Grand Son carrying on the Sweet business in Mysore. But, today, we have Sree Krishna Sweets, Cbe, A2B, etc., who also prepare Mysore Pak which are great in taste and quality. But the fact is Gundappa charges Rs.300 per kg and the rest charge Rs.375 to 425 per kg.

So let us not compare and demoralize others who are in the same business. Infact, I have tasted Mani's team preparation and there is nothing extraordinary.
