Diesel oil and kerosene

Addressing the meeting of the Oil Advisory Committee to-day [June 4, New Delhi], the Union Minister for Petroleum and Chemicals, Mr. Humayun Kabir, expressed the Government’s determination not to allow any shortages of petroleum products to arise in the country. The Government would not hesitate to use its powers and take all measures necessary to ensure that the distribution of these products did not breakdown anywhere. Representatives of the oil companies are also members of the Oil Advisory Committee and the Minister was referring to the difficulties that arose recently in some parts of the country over supplies of kerosene and diesel oil, as a consequence of the Government’s decision to import them only from Russia and distribute them through the Government-owned Indian Oil Corporation. Mr. Kabir characterised the private oil companies’ decision not to handle Russian products as illogical and unjustified. He would be happy if the oil companies voluntarily did what the situation required.
