12 resolutions adopted at State convention

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A total of 12 resolutions, including one to incorporate dwarfs in the Persons With Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995, were passed at a State convention for the comprehensive rights of differently-abled here on Saturday.

The meeting convened by the National Platform for the Rights of Disabled (Tamil Nadu) also sought district-level institutions for the mentally ill, Braille books for schoolchildren to be given on time and government-run centres in all districts for the elderly among the differently-abled.

Members of various associations representing the visually challenged, physically disabled, hearing and speech impaired, mentally ill, those with leprosy and dwarfs also sought that a proper enumeration of the disabled be conducted in the 2011 Census.
