Tiruchi Sports Hostel wins two titles

TIRUCHI: Tiruchi Sports Hostel clinched the under-19 and 17 titles at the SDAT inter-sports hostels/schools volleyball tournament here on Sunday.

Tiruchi won all its league matches in both the categories. Madurai finished runner-up in both the categories.

The results (league):

Under-19: Tiruchi bt KSR MHSS 25-15, 25-12; Madurai bt Tirunelveli 30-32, 25-19, 25-23.

Tiruchi bt Tirunelveli 25-9, 25-13; Madurai bt KSR MHSS 25-9, 25-18; Tirunelveli bt KSR MHSS 25-10, 16-25, 25-10; Tiruchi bt Madurai 25-21, 25-12.

Under-17: Madurai bt KSR MHSS 25-9, 25-20; Tiruchi bt Tirunelveli 25-8, 25-6.

Tiruchi bt KSR MHSS 25-9, 25-11; Madurai bt Tirunelveli 25-9, 25-17; KSR MHSS bt Tirunelveli 25-11, 25-10; Tiruchi bt Madurai 25-11, 25-14.

Arjun, Sangeetha triumph

T.K.S. Arjun and P. Sangeetha won the under-14 boys’ and girls’ titles respectively at the District chess tournament, organised by the Tiruchi District Chess Association on Sunday.

S. Mohith Akash and K.S. Vedashawmya bagged the under-12 boys’ and girls’ crowns respectively.

The top two finishers in the under-14 and 12 boys’ and girls’ sections will represent Tiruchi in State rapid chess championship.

Arasan FC posts wins

Arasan FC won both its matches in the Dindigul District Football Association nursery (under-13) league in Dindigul on Sunday.

Arasan FC 4 (Sikandar Basha 2, Saravanakumar, Tamilarasan) bt Royal FC 2 (Mohammed Nainar, Praveen).

PSNA FC 0 drew with AK FC 0; Royal 3 (Mohammed Nainar 2, Rajesh) bt MSP 1 (Gopinath).

Veeramalai shines

N. Veeramalai’s all-round performance (50 & five for 32) was the highlight of Yuvaraj CC’s 45-run win over Seenibala CC in a Dindigul DCA first division league cricket match in Dindigul on Sunday.

Yuvaraj CC 229 in 41.2 overs (Durgainathan 94, N. Veeramalai 50, Sekar three for 40) bt Seenibala CC 184 in 35.4 overs (Lakshmikanth 44, Thangaparamasivam 40, N. Veeramalai five for 32).

Fourth division: Kannappar CC 109 for seven in 20 overs lost to Challenger Boys CC 111 for nine in 19.4 overs (Elvin three for 22).

Yuvaraj Juniors CC 104 for seven in 20 overs (Karthi 29, Ramesh Kumar three for 38) lost to Udayam CC 105 for three in 15.3 overs (Arunkumar 36 n.o., Ramesh Kumar 29 n.o.).

Easy for Don Bosco FC

Don Bosco FC scored a comfortable 6-1 win over Friends FC in a Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy in Madurai on Sunday.

‘A’ division: Don Bosco FC 6 (Rangasamy 2, Velmurugan 2, Balamurugan, Arun) bt Friends FC 1 (Jaiganesh).
