Golden double for Sharath Gaekwad

BANGALORE: Sharath Gaekwad stole the hearts and a golden double in the swimming events of the 4th International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games 2009 at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre pool here on Sunday, a day when India did make a big splash while winning five golds.

Sharath, who claimed the 100m breaststroke gold on Saturday, added the 50m freestyle gold and 100m butterfly silver to his kitty while Rajni Jha (two gold) and Kachan Choudhari and Prasanta Karmakar too added to the booty.

India’s Jagseer Singh added the triple jump silver to the long jump gold he won on Friday (6.70m). Jagseer leapt 12.59 metres with Mahabir Singh clinching the bronze (12.49 metres).
