KANNUR: Diabetic patients should undergo regular eye tests as they are vulnerable to eye problems such as cataract and diabetic retinopathy, according to ophthalmologists who attended the three-day annual State conference of the Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons that concluded here on Sunday. Diabetes and how it affects eyes were among the topics discussed. Discussions were led by diabetes expert A.G. Unnikrishnan of the Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He said eye diseases and disorders were common among diabetic patients. People with diabetes were often diagnosed with cataract, he said adding that regular eye tests, early diagnosis and treatment could prevent diabetes from affecting the eyes.
