Secunderabad station modernisation gets delayed

Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The plans of South Central Railway (SCR) to develop Secunderabad railway station into a world-class facility got delayed with Railway Board extending the deadline for selection of consultant to prepare a master plan of the project to December 24.

SCR issued global tenders on September 26 inviting consultants to sketch the master plan and tenders were to be opened on October 30th.

Safety clauses

Based on its experiences in finalising a consultant for the New Delhi railway station face-lifting works, the Railway Board wanted to include some safety clauses in the terms and conditions before making a choice. Hence, the deadline was extended to December 24, said SCR official spokesperson.

It may be recalled that the Railway Board plans to go in for vertical development of the station with platforms on different floors with each floor housing restaurants, malls, passenger amenities etc.

Comprehensive

The consultant is expected to prepare a comprehensive plan, including the estimated project cost, technical feasibility, real estate scenario, future expansions and other infrastructure recommendations.

Depending on the recommendations, project developers were to be invited for construction of a station of international standards. Interestingly, despite October 30 being the last date for submitting the tenders, SCR had not received any tender applications till the deadline.

Generally, bidders tend to file their tenders only on the last date and perhaps this could be the reason for not receiving any applications. The changes in tendering process were displayed on the ‘ www.tenders.gov.in’ website, informs the spokesperson.
