Kochi: One hundred and thirty five officer cadets of the Navy and the Coast Guard successfully completed their afloat training onboard the First Training Squadron at the Naval Base here on Saturday. Their passing-out parade was reviewed by Vice-Admiral K.N. Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command. The Vice-Admiral, in his address to the cadets, emphasised the importance of caring and humane leadership in the running of a warship. The 24-week ship phase of the training saw the future officers of the Navy and the Coast Guard being exposed to various facets of seafaring and life onboard a warship. In addition to port calls at various Indian ports on either coast, the ships of the Training Squadron also visited the Ports of Colombo, Port Louis in Mauritius and Port Victoria in Seychelles. The First Training Squadron commanded by Captain G. Prakash comprises Indian Naval Ships Tir, Shardul, Krishna, Tarangini and Indian Coast Guard Ship Varuna. Cadet C. Murali Krishnan was awarded the Chief of the Naval Staff Trophy for standing first in the overall order of merit. He was also adjudged the best all-round cadet. Assistant Commandant Shyam Kishore was awarded the trophy for standing first in the order of merit from the Indian Coast Guard. The cadets will now join the frontline ships of the Western and Eastern Fleet and Coast Guard ships for the next stage of training.
