G. Vijay Vaibhav HYDERABAD: For G. Vijay Vaibhav, captain and wicket-keeper of Hyderabad team playing in the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) cricket tournament in Visakhapatnam, Saturday is arguably a memorable day in his carer – for he achieved the rare feat of claiming 11 victims behind the stumps in the match against Andhra and all of them were catches. A trainee of one of the best coaches in the city and former Ranji star Vijay Paul, Vaibhav has been a regular for the State team in different age groups for the last five years. Quite naturally, when Vaibhav was responsible in sending back 11 batsmen in the three-day match which Hyderabad won convincingly, he was not actually aware of the rare feat. “I was delighted when informed after we came back to the dressing room about this record,” he informed The Hindu from Vizag. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear whether this is a world record or not, but the best performance by a wicket-keeper from the city in any age category. Right now, this Intermediate first year student of Wesley College who admires former Australian great Adam Gilchrist and is eagerly awaiting a chance to meet him, is more focussed on guiding his team to title-triumph in the on-going championship than in looking for any personal records. A true leader!
