Mumbai: The presence of Tim May, Chief Executive, Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA) in the ICC Venue Inspection Committee for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, has not really pleased the BCCI. Reliable sources in the 18-member Central Organising Committee, ICC CWC 2011, who attended a meeting here on November 9, revealed that top BCCI officials in the COC were miffed at the ICC move to nominate a FICA representative. Recently Chris Tetley, Event Manager, ICC, and others inspected venues in six of the eight host cities in India at Nagpur, Delhi, Kolkata, Mohali, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The ICC committee will soon be visiting venues in Bangalore and Chennai. It’s understood that the FICA member will not be part of the inspection party in Bangalore and Chennai following a decision taken at the meeting in Mumbai. The BCCI officials told the COC that India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh do not recognise FICA and hence it has no right to be part of the venue inspection committee. According to the FICA website, the cricketers association of Sri Lanka is one of its members. The FICA was established in 1998 to protect various interests of the cricketers. Recently it rejected the ICC’s post-2012 Future Tours Programme (FTP). A few years ago the ICC included its representative in the Cricket Committee. It also plays a role in the annual ICC Awards and also a significant role in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame programme.
