KARUR: Thousands of mourners led by the Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin participated in the funeral of the DMK Karur district secretary Vasuki Murugesan at Thalavapalayam near here on Saturday. Vasuki was killed in a road accident near Sulur on Friday. The funeral began at her house at Thalavapalayam where the body was kept for the public to pay their respects and homage around 10-30 in the morning. Aside Mr. Stalin, Union Ministers A. Raja, S.S. Palanimanickam, D. Napoleon, S. Gandhi Selvan, as also State Ministers K. Anbazhagan, Arcot N. Veerasamy, K. Ponmudi, K. N. Nehru, Pongalur Palanisamy, Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, N. Selvaraj, A.V. Velu, Periyakaruppan, M.P. Saminathan, Tamizharasi, Poonkothai Aladi Aruna, Geetha Jeevan, Mathivanan former Union Minister Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, MP K. Kanimozhi, Durga Stalin, former State Ministers Sarguna Pandian, Selvaganapathy, Indrakumari, several MPs and MLAs and MPs a host of officials including the District Collector J. Uma Maheswari, District Revenue Officer C. Munirathinam and public participated in Vasuki’s funeral. The body was taken to the banks of River Cauvery off Thalavapalayam where a condolence meeting was held in which the speakers eulogised her and recalled her contribution to the party and the society. Shops in Karur had downed shutters.
