Gatecrasher, a friend of India

Washington: Tareq Salahi, who gatecrashed the state dinner hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama in honour of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the White House on Tuesday, is a known friend of India.

Virginia couple Tareq and Michaele Salahi entered the White House uninvited and had a “wonderful time” in the company of the Obamas and Dr. Singh at the high-profile black tie dinner.

In fact, the Salahis are instrumental in India’s first ever participation in America’s Polo Club to be held at the National Mall in Washington on June 11 and 12 next.

This announcement was made by Mr. Salahi himself at a reception hosted by the Indian Embassy in Washington on September 9 and the kick-off event was held at the National Mall on September 19.

At the event, he told PTI that he was the captain of the U.S. polo team. “We are really excited about this partnership [between India and the U.S.],” he said, adding America’s Polo Cup had been the tradition in Washington DC since 1923. — PTI
