HYDERABAD: A court here has asked the professor and head of gastroenterology department of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to appear before it on December 4 to decide whether in-patient treatment is to be continued for former Satyam Computers chairman B. Ramalinga Raju at NIMS. Ramalinga Raju was discharged from NIMS on Thursday evening at the request of the Superintendent of Chanchalguda jail who felt a decision on his continued hospitalisation for treatment of Hepatitis-C could be delayed as it required the approval of government since an expenditure of Rs. 8 lakh was involved. The magistrate K. Sudhakar asked the wife of Ramalinga Raju to bear the expenses for the appearance of Dr. Ajit Kumar in the court. Her petition seeking the court’s intervention to permit in-patient treatment of Ramalinga Raju with her funds was kept pending until the doctor appeared in court. Dr. Ajit Kumar had in his report on the condition of Ramalinga Raju noted that the latter might any time go into hepatic failure and face complications like hepatic coma or even liver cancer which would make the disease incurable and often detrimental. It was advisable to start the treatment at the earliest as it was already delayed.
