THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Speaker V.M. Sudheeran has said that the inquiry ordered against Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders like M.N. Govindan Nair and T.V. Thomas during the late sixties, whatever the political compulsions for it, was uncalled for and should have been avoided. Delivering the MN commemoration lecture here on Friday, Mr. Sudheeran said there was no question of persons like M.N. Govindan Nair or T.V. Thomas indulging in corruption and everybody knew that. There could have been compelling political reasons for the decision to order an inquiry against them, but it was something that should have been avoided considering the great contributions they had made for the growth of the communist movement in the State. If Govindan Nair did not become the Chief Minister of Kerala, it was on his own volition. The role that he played in making E.M.S. Namboodiripad and C. Achutha Menon Chief Ministers of the State was also unforgettable, Mr. Sudheeran said.
