HUBLI: Transport Minister R. Ashok has said that he will make efforts for getting exemption from motor vehicles tax to the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) on the lines of the exemption given to the North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC). He was speaking to presspersons here on Friday on his way to Bagalkot district to take part in programmes organised to launch projects to relocate flood-prone villages. The Minister said that steps would be taken to strengthen the NWKRTC, and providing exemption from motor vehicles tax was one such step. He said that an inquiry had been initiated against four officials in connection with the loss incurred by the NWKRTC and allegations of misappropriation of funds. “Once the inquiry is completed further action will be taken,” he added. He said that buses which had run more than seven lakh km were being phased out gradually. New buses were being pressed into service.
