Hassan: Hassan City Municipal Council president Nethravathi Girish submitted her resignation to Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh on Thursday. Confirming this here on Friday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Subbaraya Kamat said the president would have 10 days time to reconsider and withdraw the resignation. Hassan CMC elected a woman from the other backward community as president and a person from the general category as the vice-president for the first term of 30 months. Accordingly, Ratnamma Mahantesh became the president for the first 14 months. However, election of the next president was delayed because of Lok Sabha elections. Nethravathi Girish, Ambika Ravishankar and three other Congress Councillors crossed over to the Janata Dal (Secular) ahead of the Lok Sabha election and campaigned for former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. Then, an agreement was reached that Ms. Girish and Ms. Ravishankar should be made as president of CMC for remaining period. Ms. Girish was elected as president for four-and-a-half months. Now Ms. Ravishankar will be elected president for the remaining period. For the second term of two-and-a-half years, new reservation will be announced for the posts of president and vice-president.
