Mangadevi award for Ramana

It carries Rs. 10,000 cash and a memento

GUNTUR: Children need a special kind of literature to understand the world around them and not many have the knack to present it in a lucid manner for every kid to understand and assimilate the content, said Sri Venkateswara Bala Kuteer founder Nannapaneni Mangadevi while announcing the name of this year’s Dr. Mangadevi Children’s Literature Award winner.

The award instituted in 1994 will be presented to Chokkapu Venkata Ramana, who had served as editor of ‘Bala’ and Bala Chandrika children’s magazines brought out by Andhra Pradesh State Children’s Academy. He had also judged several events organised by the NCERT and was the secretary of the Children’s Literature Writers’ Association.

This award containing Rs.10,000 cash, and a memento, was earlier, given away to Mahidhar Nalini Mohan, P. Kameswara Rao, Buddiga Subbarayan, D. Sujatha Devi, Kaluva Kolanu Sadanand, Velaga Venkatappayya, Manorama, M. Krishna Kumari, Ravuri Bharadwaj, Reddy Raghavaiah, Bujjai (Devulapalli Subbaraya Sastry), Chandamama Editor Vishwanadha Reddy, Chandralatha, and Vadrevu Chinaveerbhadrudu.

In addition to this awards would be given away to winners of a State-level competition in painting, and music at a Children’s Cultural Festival to be organised on the school premises in Guntur on December 10. Announcing the competitions, for Kappurapu Devi Chaitanya Memorial awards in painting, she said that children in two groups - Classes 5 to 7 in Group A, and classes 8 to 10 in Group B could participate in the topic – ‘Earth, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’.

Schools in the State could send three entries in each group by conducting internal competitions. The paintings should be drawn on a sheet of minimum size of 30 c.m. by 40 c.m. in any medium of colour.

The school principal/headmaster must certify the bona fide of the student participants. The results would be intimated to the winners by December 6.
