NEW DELHI: Grandmasters K. Sasikiran, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Sandipan Chanda suffered their second defeat in the second round to end the Indian challenge in the World Cup chess championship at Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, on Wednesday. Needing a victory to stay alive in the competition, the three Indians crashed to successive defeats in as many days. Sasikiran lost in 35 moves to Etienne Bacrot (France), Ganguly gave up in 42 moves against Wang Hao (China) and Chanda surrendered in 40 moves to Dmitry Jakovenko (Russia). Wesley beats IvanchukMeanwhile, young Filipino GM So Wesley packed off Ukraine’s Vassily Ivanchuk 1.5-0.5 and Victor Laznicka (Czech Republic) completed a surprise 2-0 victory over Russia’s Alexander Morozevich. The results (involving Indians): Round Two: Game Two: Dmitry Jakovenko (Rus, 2) bt Sandipan Chanda (0); Surya Shekhar Ganguly (0) lost to Wang Hao (Chn, 2); K. Sasikiran lost to Etienne Bacrot (Fra, 2).
