BANGALORE: Three of Air India’s most influential labour unions have petitioned President Pratibha Patil, seeking the removal of the airlines’ chairman and managing director Arvind Jadhav. Demand probeIn a strongly worded letter, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), the Air Corporations Employees Union and the Indian Aircraft Technicians Association also sought an enquiry against Mr. Jadhav. The letter, which details the state of affairs in the airlines, states that there could be “no viable turnaround plan” as long as Mr. Jadhav is at the helm. The petition comes at a time when the ICPA, which represents 560 Air India pilots, has indicated that it would go on strike from the midnight of November 30 if their demands are not met with. The letter also drew the President’s attention to “the background and the reasons that have led to the current financial mess in Air India.” It also called for an investigation into actions of Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel.
