Sibsagar: A devastating fire broke out near an ONGC drilling site at Geleki in Assam’s Sibsagar district on Wednesday, official sources said. The fire, caused by oil seepage from the oilfield to the PSU’s Atkhel drilling site, was controlled by its fire service which immediately swung into action. Foam was used to control the fire, the sources said adding the extent of damage was yet to be ascertained. Local residents alleged that extensive oil seepage have polluted water bodies in the area, while ONGC authorities said measures are being taken to control it.
