NEW DELHI: Grandmaster K. Sasikiran came out stronger in the second tie-break rapid game against Dutchman Erwin LAmi to join teammates Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Sandipan Chanda in the second round of the World Cup chess championship at Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, on Monday. Parimarjan Negi , the only other Indian on view on this day, surrendered the second rapid game to Switzerland’s Vadim Milov to lose 1.5-2.5. On Sunday, too, Milov had scored from the white side in the second classical game to make it 1-1 and force Monday’s tiebreak games. On Sunday, Ganguly won again against Uzbek Anton Filipov for a resounding 2-0 victory while Chanda drew with Mikhail Kobalia to complete a 1.5-0.5 triumph. Sriram Jha, Abhijit Kunte and Abhijeet Gupta lost their games with black pieces in the second game of the opening round and bowed out. The results: Round One: Rapid Game Two: K. Sasikiran (2.5) bt Erwin LAmi (Ned, 1.5); Vadim Milov (Sui, 2.5) bt Parimarjan Negi (1.5); Rapid Game One: LAmi (1.5) drew with Sasikiran (1.5); Negi (1.5) drew with Milov (1.5). Round One: Game Two: Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 1.5) bt Sriram Jha (0.5); Alexie Shirov (Esp, 1.5) bt Abhijit Kunte (0.5); Nikita Vitiugov (Rus, 1.5) bt Abhijeet Gupta (0.5); Sasikiran (1) drew with LAmi (1); Anton Filipov (Uzb, 0) lost to Surya Shekhar Ganguly (2); Milov (1) bt Negi (1); Mikhail Kobalia (Rus, 0.5) drew with Sandipan Chanda (1.5).
