Clarification from CII panel chairman
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: In response to the article, ‘Students vow to do their bit for environment’ published in The Hindu’s Chennai edition dated November 23, T.T. Ashok, Chairman, CSR Sub-Committee, CII – Southern Region issued a statement on Monday.
He disagreed with the views of a participant decrying the activities of CII, its member companies and specifically targeting certain companies on their CSR and environmental contributions at the ‘E20 Environmental Student Leadership Summit’ organised by the Loyola College, Chennai.
Objective of the Summit was to promote cooperation between student community and corporates towards environment protection and sustainable development.
The participant’s remark on CII member companies at the public session was totally uncalled for and baseless.
CII urges the NGO fraternity and environmental activists to understand the measures being taken by corporate houses on environment conservation and protection.
CII would provide unbiased platform for discussion with the industry on issues of environment and sustainable development,” the statement said.
