NEW DELHI: TI Cycles of India (TII), a Murugappa group company, on Monday launched well-known American bicycle brand Schwinn here.

Priced between Rs. 7,190 and Rs. 21,000, the Schwinn brand will offer various ranges of bicycles including ‘ridged fork’, ‘suspension’, ‘hard tail’ and ‘kids’.

“The concept of cycling has taken a paradigm shift of being a mode of transportation to becoming an entity for fitness, sports and recreation. We have adapted the mission to present the new future of cycling and fitness in India, and accordingly we have launched Schwinn,” TII President (Bicycles and Fitness) Raghu Ram said here after unveiling the bicycles.

“Schwinn bicycles are high-end ones. They are more for leisure and adventure purpose. People who want to buy will definitely whether they already have two-wheeler or not.

“The launch of Schwinn caters to the customer’s expectation of quality and price, and also promotes the joy of cycling for a healthy and greener future,” Mr. Ram said, adding that the company planned to sell around 3,000 units of Schwinn bicycles by the end of 2010.

Mr. Ram also informed that TII would promote its battery-powered cycles soon.

TII, which introduced Rs. 8,000 battery-operated ‘Pedelec’ in the South, plans to introduce it in the rest of the country by next month. TII has so far sold over 500 units of ‘Pedelec’.
