Cultural show planned for inaugural 4,700 shops have registered for the festival THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The inaugural ceremony of Kerala Tourism’s Grand Kerala Shopping Festival-Season 3 will be held in Kannur on December 1. Minister for Finance T.M. Thomas Isaac will inaugurate the 45-day event at the Jawahar Stadium. Minister for Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will preside over the inaugural ceremony. Minister for Industries Elamaram Karim, Minister for Revenue K.P. Rajendran, Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy, Minister for Devaswom Kadannappally Ramachandran and Minister for Transport Jose Thettayil will attend the function. A release from the GKSF directorate said around 4,700 shops from all over the 14 districts have registered for the shopping festival, in which traders can proclaim 40 kg of gold as prizes for customers. Along with the gold prizes, numerous scratch and win prizes, Mahindra Xylo, VLCC packs and Medimix gift kits are also being given away. “Such a huge prize scheme, worth more than Rs.8 crore, is being announced for the first time in the country.” Dance and musicA cultural show including dancers from South Africa and a musical night led by playback singers P. Jayachandran and Naresh Iyer will be the main attraction of the function. Entry to the stadium will be restricted by passes. According to the GKSF directorate, passes will be distributed from shops in Kannur that have registered as partners of the GKSF and offices of the print media partners Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi, Deshabhimani, Kerala Kaumudi and The Hindu.
