dated November 24, 1959: Andhra-Madras border

The Andhra Pradesh-Madras (alteration of boundaries) Bill which seeks to validate the Pataskar Award was passed by the Lok Sabha on November 23, with amendments of a minor nature. Though there was opposition to the Bill in the present form and criticism of it by Mr. Thakurdas Bhargava (Congress-Punjab) and Mr. M.R. Masani the debate ended quickly. An amendment, to have the Bill circulated for eliciting public opinion and referring it to a Joint Select Committee, moved by Mr. J.H. Mohammed Imam and Mr. Bhargava was rejected by the House. The suggestion that at least some of the villages given to Madras under the Award should be transferred to Andhra, made by Mr. Bhargava, was not accepted by the House.
