Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has urged Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor to approach the Saudi authorities and facilitate the return journey of 4,238 Haj pilgrims hailing from the State through the Jeddah airport.

In a statement here, the IUML said the pilgrims were scheduled to return home from Medina after their pilgrimage to Makkah. The statement, issued by IUML district president A. Abbas Sait, said the distance between Medina and Makkah was 447 km and it took pilgrims 12 hours to reach Makkah. Most pilgrims were above the age of 55 and finding the journey back tedious.
