Gujarat Emporium’s exhibition from today

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: Mayor M. Bhaskaran will inaugurate at 4 p.m. on Tuesday an exhibition of Gujarat handicrafts, handloom and jewellery at the CSI Hall here.

Handloom exhibits will be sold at a government-sponsored rebate of 20 per cent. Handicrafts would have a rebate of 10 per cent, K. Arunachalam, Manager of Gujarat Emporium, said.

The exhibition, organised under the development scheme of the Union government to improve livelihood of craftsmen and weavers and avoid exploitation by middlemen, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all days except Sundays till December 12.

Exhibits include Gujarati dresses, gift items, semi precious stones and leather bags. Saris, churidars and bedsheets from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka too will be on display.

Terracotta products

The organisers expect the ‘dia-cho-pressure glass’ to be an attraction since its manufacturers claim it has medicinal properties that will “control diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure.”

Terracotta products of Gujarat and West Bengal too will be displayed. The prices range from Rs.10 to Rs.10,000.
