Murray beats del Potro

LONDON: Andy Murray overcame a second-set slump to beat Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on Sunday in the opening group match of the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.

In a match where both players mixed brilliant winners with an equal amount of simple errors, del Potro double-faulted to set up two match points for Murray, and the Briton converted the second with a backhand winner.

The win improves Murray’s chances of advancing from the round-robin phase to the semifinals of the lucrative eight-player tournament, with two group matches remaining for both players. — AP
