Sikh to become first non-white BNP member

Hasan Suroor

LONDON: A retired Sikh schoolteacher, with extreme views on Islam, is set to become the first non-white member of the far-right British National Party (BNP) which is in the process of changing its “white-only” membership policy following a court order.

Rajinder Singh (78), who moved to Britain from Punjab in 1967, said he would be “honoured” to join BNP hailing it as the only party which had the “guts” to attack Muslims publicly. However, he hastened to add that he didn’t “hate” Muslims because Sikhism preached “love for all”.

Mr. Singh, who provided a good character reference to the BNP leader Nick Griffin when he was tried for stirring racial hatred, said he supported the BNP’s campaign against “Islamification” of Britain.

He said he was prepared to overlook BNP’s racist policies that led to Mr. Griffin being convicted for inciting racial hate.
