Tuticorin: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre led by senior leader P.H. Pandian staged a demonstration in front of the old bus stand at Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district on Sunday in support of a charter of demands.

They demanded that the bus stand established recently at Radhapuram be named after former Chief Minister Kamaraj and a statue of Kakkan erected there.

Bridges (thoondil palam) should be established along the coastal villages such as Kootapuli, Perumanal, Kootangudi, Thomaiyarpuram, Uvari, Kootapanad and Kooduthalai in the district.

Mr. Pandian came down heavily on imposition of fine on fishermen for venturing beyond 12 nautical miles in the sea.

“If the restriction continues, fishermen from Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand will get in to our waters with sophisticated fishing boats and ruin the livelihood of our fishermen,” he said.

Other party dignitaries Nainar Nagendran and Senthoor Pandi, and Karuppasamy, MLA, spoke.
