Kochi: Minister for Home Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday suggested setting up of special Benches in the High Court for quickly disposing of cases relating to economic offences, human rights violations and cyber crimes. Inaugurating a seminar on “Development of Law and Justice- Perspective” organised in connection with the High Court Day celebrations, he said that the planning board would work out a scheme for improving the facilities of subordinate courts and starting new courts after holding discussions with the judiciary and the executive. The Home Minster said that that the government was stingy when it came to allocating money for improving the facilities of the judiciary on grounds of financial crunch. Such an attitude of the government would be changed and it would accord top priority to the needs of the judiciary. He said that the working of the judiciary should be changed in accordance with the changes taking place in the country. The judiciary should try to dispose of cases at the earliest. The delay in the disposal of cases had its own ramifications on the society as a whole, he said. Minister for Transport Jose Thettayil, Director General of Prosecution V.G.Govindan Nair and Human Resources Development Specialist Vijay Menon spoke. M. P. Ashok Kumar, president, Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association, welcomed the gathering. R. Ranjith, Secretary of the Association proposed a vote of thanks.
