KOCHI: Rotary International president nominee Kalyan Banerjee inaugurated a day centre centre and counselling centre for senior citizens at Aluva near here recently. The Rs.100 crore Rotary Centre for Senior Citizens is a project of the Rotary district 3201 jointly with the Sisters of Destitute, in Elders Village at Chunangamvely, Aluva. The Rotary District 3201 comprising of 35 Rotary Clubs has undertaken the major community project to commemorate the Governors Conference held in September this year. Rotary Governor K. K. Mathews and District Governor Elect G. Viswanathan, Project Co-ordinator-Past District Governor, Sunil K. Zacharia and Past District Governor K. C. Philip were also present at the function. There was a reunion meeting arranged and 200 elders attended the programme. Helpage India and Probus is also associated with this mega project. A pressnote said that there were plans to add a geriatric park, medical clinic and physiotherapy unit to this old age centre. Last year the Rotary sponsored an ambulance and also a rainwater harvesting plant at this unit. Reception accordedIndia is bound to play a very important role in the activities of Rotary International in the coming years, stated Rotary International president nominee Mr. Banerjee at a function here on Sunday, to felicitate him on being nominated as the third Indian to reach the highest position at Rotary International. An official reception was accorded to him by Rotary District 3201 comprising Kerala and Tamil Nadu at IMA House in Kochi.
