Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation, in a meeting, has sought suggestions from council members, zonal chairmen and standing committee chairpersons on the role that the civic body could play in the World Classical Tamil meet to be held in Coimbatore in June 2010. Mayor R. Venkatachalam along with Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra presided over the meeting. Subjects such as street light maintenance and building plan approval applications were also discussed. The Mayor said that in the event of street lights becoming dysfunctional, public in South and East zones could prefer complaints at 96552-42250 and those in West and North zones could dial 96552-42280 to register their complaints. In the event of an emergency, Mr. Nandakumar could be contacted at 96777-26698 and the defective street lights would be set right within 48 hours. It has also been planned to have a monitoring mechanism in the offices of the Mayor, the Commissioner and the City Engineer. The Commissioner also assured to look into the suggestions on changing the building plan approval and property tax estimation procedures.
