Bank robbery case solved

Fatehabad: Haryana Police on Saturday arrested the fifth accused involved in a bank robbery at Tohana on September 25 last and busted an inter-State gang of criminals.

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Jagwant Singh Lamba said here on Saturday that one more culprit namely Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Pinjoli Kalan, district Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab has been arrested.

The four other accused who were arrested earlier included Angrej Singh, a resident of Ragulpur, Hitesh of Sunam, Jaspal Singh of Bhawanigarh and Davinderjit Singh of Patiala.

Lamba said that it was on September 25, that the manager of State Bank of Patiala, New Anaj Mandi Branch, Tohana had lodged a complaint that five unidentified youth entered the bank at about 3 p.m. and one of them put a pistol on his right temple and asked for key to the cash box. The manager told him that the key was with head cashier.

Meanwhile other accused had forcefully gathered the staff in a hall and made them sit on the floor. They also snatched the gun of the guard and took out its cartridges. One of them took entire cash out of drawer and put it in a bag. He also asked for currency chest. In the meantime the head cashier returned after lunch and was made to sit with others. Thereafter they looted Rs. 34,10,498 from currency chest and made good their escape.

Before escaping they said that no one would move for five minutes otherwise they would shoot. They also broke the CCTV camera installed in the bank. -- PTI
