UP IN ARMS: Members of Tamil Nadu Postgraduate Teachers’ Association staging a dharna in Tuticorin on Saturday.

Tuticorin: The Sixth Pay Commission recommendations and other benefits must be implemented on a par with that of the Central government, V. Leelavathi, Secretary, State Women’s Wing, Tamil Nadu Postgraduate Teachers’ Association (TNPGTA), said here on Saturday while staging a dharna in front of the Rajai Park.

She said that Government Orders 221 and 213 must also be implemented. Only postgraduate teachers should be appointed for the post of supervisor under the Sarva Siksa Abhiyan programme. A. Mujibur, district secretary, TNPGTA, said that teachers were not in favour of making contribution to the pension scheme. The government should take over the implementation of medical insurance scheme instead of assigning it to the private sector. A. Sakthivel Murugan, president, TNPGTA, demanded that the practical marks for internal assessment in government and aided schools must be given without any bias.

As many as 197 teachers from various government and aided schools took part in the agitation.

Tirunelveli

TNPGTA members also staged a dharna in Tirunelveli with the same demands.
